Traffic Commissioner to give advice on new traffic regulations at Fleet Live

Back

One of the most powerful and influential people in UK road transport will speak at Fleet Live, the most important conference and exhibition in fleet.

Nick Denton is traffic commissioner for the West Midlands, and a former traffic commissioner for London and the South East. Earlier in his career he was private secretary to the Leader of the House of Commons and the UK’s transport negotiator at the EU.

There are only eight traffic commissioners, each responsible for a region of the UK, and their duties include the licensing and regulation of operators of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and buses and coaches (PSVs), as well as the registration of local bus services.

Commissioners ensure that people running HGVs and PSVs are reputable, competent, and adequately funded. They are also responsible for assessing the fitness of current drivers and those applying for passenger carrying vehicle or large goods vehicle driving licences. And they have the power to impose traffic regulation conditions to reduce congestion and/or pollution, and to prevent danger to road users.

Nick Denton will be offering fleet decision-makers advice at Fleet Live

At Fleet Live, Denton will give his insight into new traffic regulations, licensing issues and his recommendations for commercial vehicle operators, including schemes such as the DVSA's new 'earned recognition for vehicle operators’. Download the agenda here.
